The Famous Grouse, Scotland's favourite whisky, has scooped three top awards at this year's Scotch Whisky Masters 2008.
The Famous Grouse 30 year old malt whisky won a gold award - the only gold presented in its category. This follows last year?s outstanding achievement at the International Spirits Challenge when the 30 year old also won the best overall malt, beating over 700 single and blended malts.
The Famous Grouse 30 year old is described by the master blender of, Scotland?s favourite whisky, John Ramsay, as: "a wonderfully dark russet liquid with notes of pineapple, citrus oil and cedar wood, followed by rich sweetness, oak and mixed peel on the palate. The finish is a long, rich, sweet goodbye."
The Famous Grouse Finest achieved silver in the standard blends category, while The Black Grouse, the newest edition to The Famous Grouse portfolio, won silver for best Premium Blend.
The Black Grouse whisky is designed to attract blended Scotch drinkers who are looking for a dram with a more challenging taste. It subtly marries the smoothness of The Famous Grouse with the aromatic peatiness of an Islay Malt.
Commenting on the awards, John Ramsay said: "These medals serve to further reinforce The Famous Grouse?s position as a producer of world class premium whisky. They also verify the quality and craftsmanship that goes into each and every bottle."
The Spirits Business and editor Patience Gould brought together a panel of leading Scotch whisky industry figures, to judge levels of excellence in each of the categories.
