Press release issued 19th March 2009
Benromach Origins Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky achieved Gold in the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards for a new innovative retail product launched in 2008. The awards, now in their nineteenth year, were held at The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, Aberdeen on Wednesday.
Benromach Origins is a series of special bottlings crafted to highlight how small changes in the art of whisky making can help shape the character of the final single malt.
Using pure spring water from the nearby Romach Hills and the finest Speyside barley, Benromach Origins is hand crafted by just two men at Speyside's smallest working distillery. The first batch release in the series is produced using Golden Promise barley grown in the heart of Speyside. Matured in first and second fill sherry casks, this full bodied single malt displays rich, fruity notes, intertwined with peat smoke and soft, spicy flavours.
On winning the award, David Urquhart, Joint Managing Director at Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach distillery says, "At Benromach we are always keen to experiment and try different things. It is terrific that the judges have acknowledged the product quality and innovative approach adopted. Consumers who are intrigued by this first batch of the Origins series have the opportunity to appreciate the complexities of the whisky making process".
David continues, "Winning this award plays testament to all the team at Benromach and Gordon & MacPhail who, over the course of the last twelve months, have all contributed to a successful year for Benromach Origins and the Benromach brand."
Benromach Origins is presented in a bespoke 70cl bottle and striking mustard tin, which contrasts in colour to the other expressions in the range to help reinforce the uniqueness of the product. Available from all good wine and spirits outlets, Benromach Origins Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has a RSP of £34.99.
Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the Official Whisky of Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race. The race, which sets off from Hull & Humber on the 13th September 2009, will see people from all over the world, many of whom have never sailed before, take part in the 35,000 mile race.
