Press Release issued 13th March 2008

Benromach Peat Smoke Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has won two accolades at this year's Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards.  Held at the Thainstone Exchange, Aberdeenshire on Wednesday (12th March), Benromach Peat Smoke achieved Silver in the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Award for a new innovative retail product launched in 2007.  The product was also awarded the Gold Medal in the Anderson's Packaging (Aberdeen) Ltd Award for the best packaging for products launched in 2007.

Using pure spring water from the nearby Romach Hills and heavily peated Scottish barley, Benromach Peat Smoke is hand crafted by just two men at Speyside?s smallest working distillery.

Benromach Peat Smoke uses barley malted to fifty-five parts per million and is matured in first fill bourbon barrels. Light straw in colour, Benromach Peat Smoke is a bold whisky, tempered by the sweetness and fruit notes. The nose reveals sweet, burnt sugar aromas with wood smoke and a gentle phenolic/medicinal note.  The palate exposes the peat smoke and ash followed by sweet, toasted malt.  Hints of spice and charred oak, followed by subtle phenolic flavours.

On winning the awards, David Urquhart, Joint Managing Director at Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach distillery says, "Our company philosophy has always been to embrace innovation and provide consumers with challenging, interesting and high quality products.  Benromach Peat Smoke is a seriously smoky whisky, yet the fruity character of Benromach is embodied in the flavour, thus providing the consumer with a balanced unity of the two styles".

David continues, "Winning these awards plays testament to all the team at Benromach and Gordon & MacPhail who, over the course of the last twelve months, have all contributed to a successful year for Benromach Peat Smoke and the Benromach brand."

Benromach Peat Smoke is presented in bespoke 70cl bottle and striking silver tin, which contrasts in colour to the other expressions in the range to help reinforce the uniqueness of the product.  Available from all good wine and spirits outlets, Benromach Peat Smoke Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has a RSP of £24.99 ? 26.99.

Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a race partner of the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race.  The race, which set off from Liverpool on the 16th September 2007 and is scheduled to arrive back there in July 2008, will see people from all over the world, many of whom have never sailed before, take part in the 35,000 mile race.  At the time of going to press, the Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper was sailing in third place in the race from Qingdao to Santa Cruz.  A podium finish in this particular race will see the crew maintain or improve on their current position of third on the overall race leader board.
